The Italian newspaper Il Foglio has claimed to publish the world's first AI-generated edition. This experimental four-page edition, created entirely by AI, includes articles, editorials, and even humor, with journalists only asking questions and verifying AI responses. The initiative aims to explore AI's potential in journalism, highlighting its capabilities and limitations while sparking debate on its integration into traditional newsrooms.
Amazon has introduced "Interests," an AI-powered feature that personalizes shopping by continuously scanning its inventory for products matching users' hobbies and passions. Using large language models, it translates everyday language into tailored product recommendations, notifying users of relevant updates, restocks, and deals. Currently available to a limited audience in the U.S.
Google has unveiled Gemini 2.5, its most advanced AI model to date, emphasizing reasoning capabilities. This "thinking model" excels in analyzing information, drawing logical conclusions, and handling complex tasks. It leads benchmarks in coding, math, and science, and features a massive 1 million token context window, soon expanding to 2 million.
OpenAI has introduced GPT-4o, a cutting-edge image generation model integrated into ChatGPT. This multimodal model excels in creating photorealistic and contextually accurate images, supporting complex prompts and iterative refinements. It can render precise text within images, maintain visual consistency across designs, and handle diverse artistic styles. GPT-4o is designed for practical applications like logos, infographics, and educational visuals.
Anthropic has secured an early legal victory in a copyright dispute with music publishers, as a U.S. federal judge rejected a preliminary injunction to block the use of copyrighted lyrics for AI training. The court found the publishers' request overly broad and lacking evidence of "irreparable harm." The case, involving major publishers like Universal Music Group, centers on whether Anthropic's use of lyrics for training its AI chatbot, Claude, constitutes fair use—a question yet to be resolved.
