Job Scams surged by 118% in 2023, aided by artificial intelligence (AI). Scammers pose as recruiters, posting fake job listings to steal sensitive information during the “interview” process. Victims often lose around $2,000. AI advancements allow scammers to create more convincing job ads, while the rise of remote work makes digital-only interactions common, raising red flags for job seekers.
US intelligence agencies are increasingly leveraging generative AI for tasks like content triage and enhancing analyst capabilities in classified settings. The US intelligence community is fully embracing generative AI, marking a significant shift towards transparency in its adoption of cutting-edge technology. Leaders within agencies like the CIA openly discuss how generative AI enhances intelligence operations.
Researchers investigated the impact of large language models (LLMs) on scientific writing. By analyzing 14 million paper abstracts published between 2010 and 2024, they identified “excess words” that became more common after LLMs were introduced. These telltale words, such as “delves,” “showcasing,” and “underscores,” provide evidence of LLM usage. The study suggests that at least 10% of 2024 abstracts were processed with LLMs, leading to unprecedented changes in vocabulary patterns.
Researchers at Tsinghua University have developed a brain-inspired artificial dendritic neural circuit that mimics the organization of synapses and the tree-like structure of dendrites. This system, known as the “dendristor,” leverages multi-gate silicon nanowire transistors coated with ion-doped sol-gel films to perform computations similar to biological dendrites. The goal is to create more brain-like dynamic information processing systems in neuromorphic engineering
