  • Apple’s highly anticipated artificial intelligence features, initially set to launch with the new iPhone and iPad software updates, are facing delays. These AI capabilities, which include the Apple Intelligence service, will not be included in the initial release of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 scheduled for September. Instead, the rollout is expected to begin in October as part of subsequent software updates.

  • AI systems, removed from original human-generated data, start to lose the plot and forget the meaning, leading to a degenerative process. Models tested this by training successive generations of models on the output of the preceding one, resulting in gibberish that strayed far from the initial content. This suggests that AI models could become “poisoned with their own projection of reality,” raising concerns about the diversity and reliability of AI-generated content

  • As AI technology advances, new data centers are rapidly emerging, leading to a substantial increase in power consumption for running and cooling servers. This surge in demand raises concerns about the grid’s capacity to sustain the growth of AI. Innovations like Arm’s low-power processors and Nvidia’s Grace Blackwell AI chip aim to reduce power usage, but the challenge remains substantial. A single ChatGPT query can consume ten times more energy than a typical Google search, and training large AI models may emit as much CO2 as five gas-powered cars over their lifetimes.

  • Video game industry is experiencing a significant shift due to the integration of AI, leading to widespread layoffs and ethical concerns. Major companies like Microsoft have closed studios such as Tango Gameworks and Alpha Dog Games. A survey from the Game Developers Conference revealed that nearly half of the respondents’ workplaces used AI. The use of AI in game development is becoming more prevalent, with some studios requiring artists to incorporate AI into their work.
