• Nvidia and Microsoft have both released new small language models designed for efficiency on devices with limited processing power. Nvidia’s Mistral-NeMo-Minitron 8B, a scaled-down version of a previous model, uses techniques like pruning and distillation to maintain high performance while reducing hardware requirements. Microsoft introduced three open-source models, including Phi-3.5-mini-instruct, which can handle extensive data processing tasks.

• Epic Systems announced at their 2024 Users Group Meeting that they are integrating over 100 new AI features into their healthcare software, including MyChart and Cosmos. These AI tools aim to assist doctors and patients by simplifying communication and enhancing data accessibility. By the end of 2025, generative AI will help doctors draft patient messages and pull relevant medical details

• Amazon-backed AI startup Anthropic is facing a class-action lawsuit in California federal court, filed by three authors who allege that the company used pirated versions of their copyrighted books to train its AI models. The lawsuit claims that Anthropic’s business model relies on the large-scale theft of copyrighted works, including those of the plaintiffs.

• Chinese tech firms are diving into the AI smart glasses market, seeing it as the next big opportunity. These glasses, equipped with advanced AI features, aim to enhance user experiences in areas like augmented reality and real-time information access. Companies are racing to innovate and capture market share, driven by the potential for significant consumer demand and technological advancements.
