• A Global IT outage has caused significant disruptions worldwide, affecting travel, banking, and healthcare services. The outage was triggered by a faulty update to Crowdstrike’s Falcon antivirus software, which is used to protect Microsoft Windows devices. Crowdstrike has acknowledged the defect and deployed a fix, but the resolution requires manual reboots in safe mode for each affected device, leading to extensive delays in restoring services.

• Mistral AI, in collaboration with NVIDIA, has unveiled the Mistral NeMo 12B, a state-of-the-art enterprise AI model designed for a wide range of applications including chatbots, multilingual tasks, coding, and summarization. The Mistral NeMo 12B model, which is trained on the NVIDIA DGX Cloud AI platform, boasts a 128K context length for processing complex information and is released under the Apache 2.0 license to support the broader AI community.

• OpenAI has introduced GPT-4o mini, a new model designed for cost efficiency, which is expected to broaden the range of AI-powered applications due to its affordability. The model supports a variety of tasks with its low cost and latency, and it’s capable of handling text and vision inputs within the API.

• Shift from cryptocurrency to artificial intelligence - Texas-based companies are transitioning their operations to support AI infrastructure. Houston’s Lancium and Denver’s Crusoe Energy Systems have struck a multibillion-dollar deal to construct a 200-megawatt data center near Abilene, Texas. This center, aimed at meeting the high-energy demands of AI workloads, represents a growing trend as the industry moves away from less profitable bitcoin mining post-halving

• Google has announced a partnership with NBCUniversal and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee to bring artificial intelligence to the U.S. broadcast of the Paris Olympics. As the official search AI partner of Team USA, Google will enable sports commentators to use AI to explain competitions.
