• Google has recently unveiled an update to its artificial intelligence (AI) chips for data centers. The new version of its tensor processing units (TPUs), called TPU v5p, is designed to train large AI models and offers twice the raw performance compared to the previous generation. Additionally, Google introduced an Arm-based central processing unit (CPU) called Axion, which outperforms x86 chips and general-purpose Arm chips in the cloud.

• Intel has introduced the Gaudi 3 AI accelerator, aiming to compete with Nvidia. This new chip is twice as power-efficient and runs AI models 1.5 times faster than Nvidia’s H100 GPU. It offers flexibility with different configurations and will be available to customers in the third quarter. Intel seeks to challenge Nvidia’s dominance in the AI chip market

• Google Cloud and Bayer have joined forces to develop an AI-powered platform aimed at assisting radiologists in their work. The platform’s generative AI identifies anomalies within medical images, allowing radiologists to focus on relevant areas. Additionally, it extracts pertinent information from a patient’s medical history. Importantly, radiologists remain in full control of their recommendations.

• Aboard, a novel AI-powered app, defies easy categorization. Initially conceived as a tool for collecting and organizing information, it has evolved into something more. Imagine Pinterest merged with Trello, infused with the capabilities of ChatGPT, and set loose on the open web. It can compile movie titles for a “Movie Night” board or curate links about African bird species. The goal is to assist users in managing information efficiently, all while maintaining the user’s control over recommendations.
