Meta Platforms Inc. plans to flood its social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, with AI-generated user profiles and content. Over the past year, Meta has developed various AI tools, such as AI chatbots and character creation tools, which have already generated hundreds of thousands of characters. These AI profiles will have bios, profile pictures, and the ability to generate and share content, aiming to make the platforms more entertaining and engaging.
Anthropic has reached an agreement with major music publishers, including Universal Music Group and Concord Music Group, to establish copyright guardrails for its AI chatbot, Claude. This comes after a lawsuit alleging that Anthropic's AI model was trained on copyrighted song lyrics. Under the agreement, Anthropic will maintain existing guardrails to prevent Claude from generating or providing access to copyrighted lyrics, and music publishers can notify Anthropic if these measures fail.
xAI's highly anticipated next-gen AI model, Grok 3, missed its scheduled end-of-2024 release date, continuing a trend of delays among flagship AI models. Elon Musk, xAI's founder, had previously announced that Grok 3 would be a significant breakthrough after extensive training. However, Grok 3 has yet to be released, with signs pointing to an intermediate model, Grok 2.5, potentially launching first.
The U.S. is preparing to introduce new regulations aimed at limiting China's access to advanced AI chips before President Biden leaves office. These rules are designed to control global shipments of powerful GPUs essential for training AI models by closing existing regulatory loopholes. The move is part of ongoing efforts to curb China's technological advancements and prevent U.S. technology from being used.
KoBold Metals, an AI-driven mining startup, recently closed a $537 million Series C funding round to develop a massive copper deposit in Zambia discovered using AI. It plans to expand exploration efforts across five continents and advance the Zambian project, which is expected to produce 300,000 tonnes of copper annually starting in the 2030s.
