• McDonald’s is ending its test run of AI-powered drive-thrus with IBM. The fast food giant had been testing an automated order-taking system using artificial intelligence-enabled voice recognition at select drive-thru locations since 2021. However, after a thoughtful review, McDonald’s decided to end its partnership with IBM.

• Ilya Sutskever, co-founder of OpenAI, recently launched a new AI company called Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI). Just a month after leaving OpenAI, Sutskever founded SSI alongside former Y Combinator partner Daniel Gross and ex-OpenAI engineer Daniel Levy. At OpenAI, Sutskever played a crucial role in AI safety efforts, particularly concerning “superintelligent” AI systems.

• Nvidia, the chip-maker, has become the world’s most valuable company, surpassing tech giants like Microsoft and Apple. Its stock price has nearly doubled since the start of this year, reaching an all-time high. The company’s meteoric rise is fueled by its dominance in providing chips for artificial intelligence (AI) applications, including those used in OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other AI models.
