  • OpenAI has unveiled a prototype search engine called SearchGPT. The goal is to provide users with “fast and timely answers with clear and relevant sources.” Currently in alpha testing with a small group of users, SearchGPT aims to offer a more natural and intuitive way to search, allowing follow-up questions akin to a conversation.

  • Google DeepMind’s AI systems, AlphaProof and AlphaGeometry 2, achieved a silver medal performance at the 2024 International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). They successfully solved four out of six challenging problems, scoring 28 out of 42 possible points. This breakthrough demonstrates significant progress in AI’s mathematical reasoning capabilities. The IMO, an annual competition for elite pre-college mathematicians, covers advanced topics in algebra, combinatorics, geometry, and number theory.

  • Chinese companies are increasingly embracing open-source models. For instance, Alibaba’s flagship AI foundation model, Qwen, is now open source, allowing developers and commercial clients to use it for free. Other Chinese startups like DeepSeek and 01.AI have also made their models accessible to a global audience. This trend toward openness aims to fuel innovation and grow cloud business, benefiting both companies and users

  • Amazon is aggressively developing its own AI chips to reduce reliance on costly Nvidia chips. These homegrown processors, including Trainium and Inferentia, aim to provide cheaper alternatives for complex calculations and data processing. Amazon’s workhorse chip, Graviton, has been in development for nearly a decade and is now in its fourth generation.

  • Jennifer Wexton, a Virginia Democrat, rose to speak on the House floor, she used a voice she thought was gone forever. A rare neurological disorder had robbed her of her ability to speak clearly. Powerful artificial intelligence program recreated her voice. Using old recordings of her speeches and appearances, the AI created a clone of her speaking voice, allowing her to deliver what is believed to be the first speech on the House floor ever given via an AI-cloned voice.
