• Profluent, a company spurred by Salesforce research and backed by Jeff Dean, is leveraging AI to revolutionize medicine discovery. Last year, Salesforce initiated the ProGen project, aiming to design proteins using generative AI. ProGen’s success in creating 3D structures of artificial proteins led to the birth of Profluent. Co-founded by Ali Madani and Alexander Meeske, Profluent extends the concept to gene editing.

• A federal judge in California dismissed a lawsuit filed by Elon Musk’s X against the nonprofit Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH). The judge, Charles Breyer, ruled that the case was primarily about punishing the Defendants for their speech. X had accused CCDH of implementing a “scare campaign” to drive away advertisers and of selectively picking posts to falsely claim that X was “overwhelmed with harmful content.”

• The European Union (EU) has launched investigations into major tech giants, including Apple, Meta and Alphabet (Google), for potential breaches of the Digital Markets Act (DMA) introduced in 2022. These companies, which are not based in Europe, could face hefty fines of up to 10% of their annual turnover if found to have violated the rules. The investigations focus on issues such as anti-steering, user choice, and data privacy.

• The UXL Foundation, backed by companies like Google, Intel and ARM is working on creating tools to power various types of AI accelerator chips, challenging Nvidia’s dominance through its CUDA framework
