• Apple is reportedly in talks with Meta (formerly Facebook) about a potential partnership related to AI. While the details haven’t been finalized, such a deal could make Apple less reliant on a single partner and validate Meta’s generative AI technology. Unlike paying for partnerships, Apple provides distribution to AI partners who can then sell premium subscriptions.

• Anthropic recently unveiled Claude 3.5 Sonnet, their latest AI model. It operates at twice the speed of Claude 3 Opus, making it ideal for context-sensitive customer support and complex workflows. Additionally, Anthropic introduced a new feature called Artifacts, allowing users to seamlessly integrate AI-generated content into their projects and workflows

• Nvidia has signed a significant deal with Qatari telecoms group Ooredoo to deploy its artificial intelligence technology at data centers in five Middle Eastern countries: Qatar, Algeria, Tunisia, Oman, and Kuwait. This move marks Nvidia’s first large-scale launch in a region where the U.S. has restricted the export of sophisticated chips to prevent Chinese firms from accessing the latest AI technology through Middle Eastern countries.

• Energy-intensive data centers, driven by AI applications, are opening en masse. However, our existing power grids aren’t adequately equipped to handle the surge in demand caused by AI technologies. From simple ChatGPT queries to complex image and video creations, the AI boom is straining an already overburdened grid. Data centers already consume more power than entire nations, and their energy demand has surged more than seven-fold since 2008.

• The Colorado Artificial Intelligence Act (CAIA) focuses on combating algorithmic discrimination by imposing obligations on developers and deployers of “high-risk” AI systems. These systems, which significantly impact decisions in areas like employment, insurance, housing, credit, education, and healthcare, must use reasonable care to prevent discriminatory outcomes.
