• Colorado Springs School District 11 struggled to find enough candidates for their 110 bus driver positions. To address this, they partnered with RouteWise AI. The AI technology, developed by rideshare company HopSkipDrive, analyzes available vehicles and school locations to determine efficient routes. The software has saved the district over half a million dollars, reduced bus routes by nearly 50%, improved on-time arrivals, and allowed for higher driver pay.

• Google’s AI Overviews feature, recently introduced in Search, aims to provide users with quick and concise summaries or direct answers generated by generative AI. The idea is to condense information from various sources into easily digestible content. However, almost immediately after its release, AI Overviews encountered significant issues and Google is scrabling to fix them.

• AI models are surprising us once again, not just with their capabilities, but also with their quirks. A recent experiment by engineers at Gramener revealed that major language models, including OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 Turbo, Anthropic’s Claude 3 Haiku, and Gemini, exhibit human-like behavior when asked to pick random numbers between 0 and 100. These models tend to avoid low and high numbers, rarely choose multiples of 5 or repeating digits, and even have “favorite” numbers.
